Why Switching to Private Security Could Be the Perfect Mid-Career ShiftFeb 13, 2023
For many jobseekers, the search for stable lucrative employment can be depressing. Endlessly refreshing Indeed or updating your LinkedIn profile can seem like a waste of time. New jobs are being created all the time, but most of them are in bottom tier service industry roles where you can expect to be underpaid and poorly treated.
You may have a lot to offer and be hard working and determined, but without the right qualifications connections you may struggle to reach your full potential.
If you are fed up and looking for a new career, private security could be your way out. Becoming a qualified security officer with Ranger Security Academy will give you the skills, accreditation and connections you need to kickstart your career in a growing industry.
Learn why private security could be the right next move for you.
An Engaging and Customer Facing Work Experience
Let’s face it, a lot of office jobs suck. Sitting behind a desk all day answering the phone and sending emails to people gets extremely boring very quickly. Commissions based sales jobs such as cold calling can be draining and nerve wracking, especially where the product you are selling isn’t something you can fully get behind. Even if you get out of the office and into a public facing role such as in retail, many find the constant pressure to close deals and pitch new customers exhausting.
Private security has none of that pressure. You aren’t selling anyone something they don’t need. You are providing a service absolutely everyone requires - protection from harm. When you interact with members of the public it will be to answer questions they need answers to, or to keep them safe.
Additionally most private security jobs require you to walk around at least some of the time. Walking around an office building checking in at your patrol stops is far better for you mentally and physically than sitting down in one place.
Great Growth Opportunities Across A Variety of Work Types
However you like to work, private security has an option for you. If you prefer to stay seated, there are plenty of jobs managing the front of house access to skyscrapers or condominium buildings or driving on patrol in a police style cruiser. If you like to get on your feet and stay active, there are jobs patrolling a facility on foot. If you like customer service, why not get a job working alongside retail workers engaging customers in a shopping center, or providing concierge style security at a hotel. If you enjoy mystery and the thrill of cracking open a case, why not try a role in loss prevention, tracking down where in the supply chain items are going missing and figuring out how to plug the leaks.
In all of these roles if you are hard working, dedicated and a pleasant worker, there are promotion opportunities. The more experience you gain, the more you will have the chance to manage your own team, mentor newer employees and gain access to higher paid positions with more responsibility.
